I never worked out whether the RK05 disks we had on our PDP had separate
speakers or the sound effects were produced by the disk head movement itself,
but the pattern of sounds was very distinctive for certain jobs.  We did
have a deadly embrace which occurred every couple of months or so and
that had its own rhythm.  The flashing lights confirmed it and we knew
which program to kill to unjam it.

(I tried in vain to track the offending deadly embrace down, but I never
managed to do so - it was faster to write a program which recovered from
killing the offending process, which catered for recovery from system
crashes too)
