When serious change happens it happens fast. The flip from analogue to digital
computers happened in the space of a few years. Ditto steam to diesel on the
railways. The von neumann architecture might be the dominant hardware design
today but I'd lay good money on it being a historic curiousity in 100 years.

Right now yes. A lot can happen in a century.

I'm sure history is littered with people who said the same thing about cutting
edge tech that had no immediate advantage over the current state of the art.
Fixed wing aircraft vs airships springs to mind.
