It would be nice if the map would include which flavor of 5G is available at each spot for each carrier. Most times it doesn’t matter but in some situations it does. Last year I was in a stadium and my de-prioritized LTE data slowed to a crawl. Places like stadiums are where there’s a big benefit to the speed and capacity of 5G mmWave. I know that the independent coverage maps for my area show a big advantage in both 4G and 5G coverage for Verizon (see (<https://i.imgur.com/iQfnNbd.jpg>) and I checked the carriers’ own maps which confirmed the large differences, but the reality is that even if you’re using the mobile carriers’ data for home broadband, the only real advantage for 5G would be if you’re getting mmWave because of the lower latency. On Saturday, my niece was over and we did 4G versus 5G speed tests. I got 306 Mb/s on 4G LTE on an iPhone Xr on a Verizon-owned prepaid service (Total Wireless). My niece got 403 Mb/s on 5G on an iPhone 12 Pro on Verizon postpaid. For all intents and purposes, that speed difference, on a phone would not be noticeable to the user. I was kind of surprised at how slow the 5G speeds actually were in <https://m-cdn.phonearena.com/images/articles/387422-940/Mid-band-5G-speed-report.webp>. I rarely see even 4G speeds that are that low.
