We're drifting off-topic (this is a newsgroup about C, not about Python),
but is seems unlikely that someone who has read the documentation of the
Python decimal package should be confused.
One should not confuse an operator acting on integers with an operator acting
on decimals, even if those operators have similar syntax.
From https://docs.python.org/3/library/decimal.html :
" There are some small differences between arithmetic on Decimal objects and arithmetic on integers and floats. When the remainder
operator % is applied to Decimal objects, the sign of the result is the sign of the dividend rather than the sign of the divisor:
