Alas, that won't work for me. The addressbook on the SIM card is capable
of storing name and number, but I have additional information. It cannot
handle a contact with multiple numbers associated with it. I'd lose one
of the numbers.

If the SIM card isn't too old, these days all SIM cards are minis. There
are several levels of plastic to pop them out of.
