Originally, a lot of fobiles didn't even _have_ their own memory for
numbers, but used the SIM, which from the start had address-book memory
(though I don't know how many or whether they stored more than just name
and number).

Well, it may sound convoluted, but if the internal memory on the old
'phone (assuming it does actually have one and it isn't just using the
SIM anyway) has no other way to export, that's the only way to do it.

Well, apart from Dave Royal's craft knife method (which hadn't occurred
to me!), you could look for a SIM reader/writer - they used to be both
common and cheap, but I haven't seen one for a while. (Does the new
non-smart 'phone have any external data connection, or only take power
through the lead?)
