"Das Biotechunternehmen Biontech testet seinen potenziellen
Coronavirus-Impfstoff nun auch in Deutschland. Vom zuständigen
Paul-Ehrlich-Institut erhielten die Mainzer Firma und ihr Partner Pfizer
grünes Licht für den deutschen Teil ihrer großen
Phase-2/3-Wirksamkeitsstudie, die bereits im Juli startete. In dieser
Studie wird die Sicherheit und Wirksamkeit des Impfstoffkandidaten
BNT162b2 an bis zu 30.000 Probanden in rund 120 Studienzentren weltweit
getestet. Bislang nahmen an der Untersuchung bereits über 25.000
Menschen teil. „Die Einbindung von Studienzentren in Europa, und nun
auch in Deutschland, hat speziell zum Ziel, eine hiesige Zulassung zu
unterstützen", sagte Biontech-Vorstandschef Ugur Sahin.

Sollten die klinischen Studien erfolgreich verlaufen, wollen Biontech
und Pfizer schon im Oktober die Zulassung des Impfstoffes beantragen.
Bei einer Genehmigung könnten die beiden Unternehmen bis zu 100
Millionen Impfstoffdosen bis Ende 2020 und über 1,3 Milliarden bis Ende
2021 herstellen. Weltweit gibt es nach Angaben der
Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO gegenwärtig 176
Corona-Impfstoffprojekte, davon befinden sich 34 in der klinischen
Erprobung am Menschen"
