The general (but not universal) opinion is that mixing declarations and
statements in C allows better quality code.  That is why the feature was
added to C.  I appreciate you have the opinion - nay, obsession - that
putting all variable declarations at the start of the code makes code
better.  (Despite that you fail to follow that in the code examples you
gave of your own language.)

Surely, however, you must see that even for people who agree with your
general point, this is an absurd justification for it?

I disagree.

It is easier to understand a variable if two parts of it - the
declaration and the usage are tied close together.  Separating them
across the code does not help.
