Meanwhile, back on Planet Earth, the facts are as follows. The X-Trail is currently being manufactured in Japan, but any cars built there have to pay the EU's tariffs to be imported into the EU. Now, however, Japan and the EU have agreed a trade deal whereby cars built in Japan can be imported into the the EU without paying tariffs - so why should Nissan bother to build a new production line in Sunderland when they can ship them into the EU direct from Japan? Furthermore, if you look at the way the market is going for vehicles like the X-Trail (not just in the EU, but the rest of the world), it's obvious that it is NOT an expanding market; if anything, it's shrinking - and reviews on the X-Trail don't rate it as good as many of its competitors. So Nissan's decision on the X-Trail has got damn all to do with Brexit; it's purely commercial good sense.
