That is what I meant - but not what I wrote.

To save Keith the effort - that is because most C compilers are not
conforming by default.  The standards did not allow duplicate typedefs
until C11 - it was a constraint error, and conforming compilers are
required to complain about them.  But many compilers (conveniently, but
not conforming) allow them in non-strict C90 and C99 modes.
