Agreed.  And a fair amount of the "open-source" software impels improvements
in corporate software.  For example, Linux itself and the GNU compilers have
really forced Microsoft to up their game.  Microsoft C++ has just about
achieved parity with GNU C++ for support for C++14, C++17.  Not sure about
C++20... it is only 2018 right now :-D

I have been doing a background port of one of my GitHub project to take
advantage of C++11 features, and I am loving it.  I will eventually publish
the code on GitHub (a few months from now), but currently push the fixes to
my li'l ol' git server at home.

Man, I love git.
