Not every program needs to be big, that is true.

If you compile with "gcc *.c" as part of your development process, you
don't understand how to use development tools.

It is fine to say you want the code to work that way when you are
finished - if you release source code for others to use, you want it to
be flexible.  But this is the /development/ process we are talking about
now, when compile time speed and incremental builds are relevant.

Using a development tool without understanding it, like using "gcc"
without any flags, is like buying an electric screwdriver to screw in
some nails - and then hammering on the nails with the unopened box the
screwdrivers comes in.
