We have amber-alerts galore where some guy takes the car and the wife wants him tracked down so she hands the baby to the grandmother and then calls in an amber alert kind of crap here so I'm already inured to the constant alerts. And even the Amber-Alert road signs are "alerting" us, literally, in big bright orange letters to "turn of the water faucet" and stop watering our lawns while we're driving down the highway for Christs' sake. Looking this alert up, I see it can't be turned off. "Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. Cell customers do not have the ability to opt of the alerts, FEMA said." <https://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2018/10/presidential_alert_text_messag.html> "Because the message is meant to include "critical lifesaving information," it's designed to reach as many cell phones as possible, even those that aren┤ activated or don't have SIM cards. The FEMA official said that in past, smaller tests, about 75% of phones received the alert. If a phone is off, or on a call at the time of the alert, the message many not come through." <https://fox4kc.com/2018/10/03/have-a-cellphone-expect-a-presidential-alert-this-afternoon/>
