I once replaced the battery of a TomTom navigator. I had to open and 
close the thing several times because of mistakes. The cables were too 
thin, a mistake and the cable would be broken beyond repair.

I did manage to do it, but after a month the brand pushed an update that 
bricked my device somehow, it would no longer take map updates.

I also replaced the battery in my Kobo reader. The replacement was hard 
to obtain. The original battery had 3 cables, the replacement had two. I 
had to unsolder a tiny PCB from the original battery and solder it on 
the replacement. It worked for a year, then the battery bulged. So I 
bought a new kobo, which says that we can repair or replace the battery.

Then I managed to connect 3 AAA batteries in an external holder with the 
tiny PCB connected (has a temperature sensor, we think), and managed to 
make the reader work again. Bulky, but it works. I then did a factory 
reset to free one "license slot".

I hate the procedure. Very easy to break something. The guys in shops 
are used to do these things.
