X-rays, gamma rays, neutrons, and protons are routinely used for examining the insides of humans and the beam does not burn holes in their bodies on the way in. All it takes sometimes is an everyday reality check to put aside something one might think is plausible. 2. The particles studied in bubble chambers are the same complement that are found in cosmic rays, and cosmic rays routinely rain down on the surface of the earth, penetrating buildings and people all the time. Notice that cosmic rays do not obliterate surface structures or set them on fire. 3. The particles studied in bubble chambers are usually ones created INSIDE the chamber, from collisions between other incoming particles and the liquid in the chamber itself. Thus the studied particles do not have to penetrate bubble chamber walls at all. 4. The beam window for a bubble chamber is deliberately thinned, relative to the rest of the structure. This is done to minimize the chances that an incoming particle will interact at all with the window. Most particles pass right by the atoms in the window with virtually zero energy deposit in the window. -- Odd Bodkin — Maker of fine toys, tools, tables
