While agreeing with your basic point that such macros are ugly they can
be split into separate statements such as
printf("x=%" PRId32, x);
printf(" y=%" PRId32, y);
printf(" small=%" PRId16, small);
printf(" big=%" PRId64, big);
That's legible and portable.
