It was their 68k compiler I tried (but we could not justify the price at 
the time), some 20 years ago or so.

gcc lets you have multiple constraints on input operands - like "rm" to 
say the input data can be in a register, or a memory address, whichever 
is most convenient to the compiler at the time.  Diab Data went one 
further and let you specify different sets of assembly for these 
different cases.

Their compiler also had a neat extension that let you specify the 
endianness of data or a pointer explicitly.  gcc has only recently 
gained this as a feature (and the data has to be in a struct).

Certainly it was a very advanced compiler in its day.

(Why can I remember such useless information for 20 years, but still 
forget to take my sandwiches for lunch?)
