The same way that you will buy a car and - when repairing it - might use
third-party parts, the best way to ensure a working desktop is to use a
properly-built operating system (like Windows or OS X) and using some
open-source software. When it is assisting you, it is fine; when it is
the only thing available, it's a disaster waiting to happen.
