Another option if you prefer the DIY route is to read the recorded 
magnetic transitions on a lower level, using something like a KryoFlux 
<http://www.kryoflux.com/>, and then use software to reconstruct the 
contents such as
<http://www.trs-80.com/wordpress/uncategorized/trs-80-kryoflux-disk-utilities-updated-writes-jv3-format/> .

Extracting the data into disk images would allow you to run the word
