But Apple are unlikely to use Google's protocol and vice-versa, look how 
long it took to get them to recognise the presence of each other's trackers.

No, what is on the car's screen isn't a "scrape" of what's on the 
phone's screen, it's like having a PC with dual monitors where the 
"remote" one using the car's screen is drawn separately, using a simpler 
GUI that's better suited to the task.  There's no connection between 
which app is displayed on the phone's screen vs the car's screen.
