sense. This is what makes them lunatics.

A lunatic will happily tell you that they know the truth, but that the 
truth has been obscured by a massive conspiracy that has studiously 
removed all the evidence of the truth, and that the absence of evidence 
of the truth is in fact the proof of the conspiracy.

A lunatic will tell you that Mrs. Opal Showalter upstairs in Apt. 4B is 
secretly in charge of a massive underworld organization with agents in 
the NSA, Interpol, MI6, and the KGB. The fact that Mrs. Opal Showalter 
is a shut-in confined to a wheelchair is a careful cover story designed 
to obscure her real operations. And there is literally nothing you can 
tell the lunatic that will dissuade him from that conviction.
