Not handwaving at all. The model completely agrees in quantitative
detail with measurement. The fact that you cannot follow it does not
turn it into handwaving.
It's a cheap tactic to go blind the minute math appears and then you
say, "Math tricks! Math tricks! The second you introduce math it's just
handwaving!"
