Yes, indeed. If I'm trying to tighten it, then I want to turn it 
clockwise. If I want to loosen it, then I want to turn it a different way.

Wrench heads are angled at 15 degrees for a specific reason, which you 
can relate to the fact that most bolt heads and nuts have six sides.

I think you are imagining a solution looking for a problem. I'm pretty 
sure the reason I gave for the design is right and anything else is an 
unintended consequence. I'll bet this is not hard to find with a quick 
Google search.
