I would have gone if drafted but my plans at one time was to enter as an officer. I attended a military school for four years. My last year was 10th grade. The school was an "honor school with distinction" due to our performance in our yearly inspection by the US Army. Because of that classification, the school could nominate three cadets to each of the service academies. I received a nomination to West Point in my sophomore year and could have gone but chose not to.
