	Yes that is a possibility I think but the main problem is that
the drive is not made for the heavy usage I inflict on it being a
librarian for the SF-LUG.  I have used at least 100 DVD R/W plus
CDs in the last year. My laser seems to be mounted on metal with a
metal island for the positioning hardware about 3 inches wide with
a larger piece of plastic around that and metal again on the bottom
of the tray.
	Checking the external drive and find it has a lot more metal
in its construction with metal surround replacing the plastic.If it
had releases in the proper position and a SATA interface I would try
to stick it in Optical drive slot.

	I just wanted to make people conscious of the problems that
can arise with optical drives.
