In MATE at least you can have an infinite number of 'workspaces' which amount to 'separate screens' with the only proviso being you cant see two at once. Just add the workspace switcher to the task bar. Its the one thing that for me makes MATE/Mint streets ahead of any windows/Mac offering -- Everything you read in newspapers is absolutely true, except for the rare story of which you happen to have first-hand knowledge. – Erwin Knoll
