Drat. Thanks.

So, in summary, there are at least two ways to solve the problem
of receiving a Word document in the Gmail iOS app and then opening
that attachment in Microsoft Word (or Pages).

Both methods involve saving the attachment to the net, and then opening
it the attachment in an Apple application (i.e., Safari) and only *then*
being able to open it in Microsoft Word.

On the other hand, if one uses the Apple Mail app, the attachment
can be opened directly in Microsoft Word, without the need to send
it to the net first.

I'd say, in this case, the Apple iOS apps are behaving quite nicely
(they just work) while the Google Gmail app stinks.

It's almost as if Google doesn't want you to open the document
from anywhere other than from a Google net location.
