Full quote:

"The 'file' command recognizes an encrypted file from mcrypt but I can't
find anywhere online the hex "magic number" that identifies the format. It
could be a long series of hex numbers or short. Does anyone know mcrypt's
signature?"

Full quote includes "...I can't find anywhere online..."

Suggestion, "Something" has been done. No "not do your homework". Maybe not
to the extent you like. I'm not a linux shell pipe master and didn't know a
file like that existed. But as you say you knew this BEFORE you responded.
