That's was my first impression, but trusty people
told that was a good editor and I give it a second
chance. I had used good DOS editors as 'qedit'

But up to now I didn't find nothing more precise
that using numkeypad as a function launcher.
So, for a time now, I'm with JED in EDT mode.
By obscure forces of X, that actually doesn't
work in gnome-terminal but menus are OK.
