My father told me how he edited programs a bit earlier. The program was a physical deck of cards. If he needed to modify some lines, he would carefully print (with a pen) the modified lines on a special sheet. Then, he would send the sheet to the keypunch typist, who would produce the modified cards and hand them over to the operator. The operator would take the designated cards out of the deck and put in the new cards. The operator would then schedule a compilation, and my father could expect a compilation listing in about 45 minutes. Just enough time for a coffee break. Marko
