That says to me the problem might well not be the video, but that the 
video is an unintended victim of the real problem.  I believe this text 
stream can be redirected to a file, no?  Maybe that is the way to go. 
Do a postmortem on the text file.

Wow, it is only my most recent laptop that has that much ram.  I design 
FPGAs and got by on 3 GB for some time.

Is NetBSD that different from Linux?  I figured it was just another 
flavor.

I don't think the computers are designed for any OS.  The OS is modified 
for the newest processors and chips.  Motherboards are just designed for 
target markets.
