What is "file.h"?

Text mode makes perfectly good sense on Linux.  It just happens to
behave the same way as binary mode.

If I'm going to read a file that I expect to contain text, I'll open it
with
    fopen("filename.txt", "r");
If I expect it to contain arbitrary data, I'll use
    fopen("filename.dat", "rb");

If my code ends up running on Windows, it should still work (assuming
it's not given foreign-format text files).
