An acquaintance who lives 300 miles away has a Macbook Pro and is having
some problems. I have never used a Mac of any kind but have extensive
computer experience in "other" areas.

First of all, she tells me that she has a Time Machine that is connected
to a DSL modem (probably a router) with a yellow cable.

I googled Time Machine and I found that Time Machine is software. Was it
ever hardware?

I also found that one uses Time Machine with something like Airport Time
Capsule which is a WiFi device?

Could she be confusing Time Machine with Time Capsule? Does Time Capsule
have an Ethernet port, or did it ever?

Finally, what's the most reliable way for me to get access to her
Macbook from a Windows PC? One that has A-B-C steps for her to follow.

Thanks.
