By default, Disk Utility will *not* show hidden partitions such as the 
Recovery Partition. In order to access it, you'll need to first enable 
the Debug menu in Disk Utility. Make sure Disk Utility is not running, 
open a Terminal windows and type the following :

defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1

The next time you run Disk Utility, you can go to the Debug menu and 
check 'Show Every Partition' to display the Recovery Partition.
