When it comes to operating systems the cost is pretty low for a lot of them (not zero, mind you; but low). That does not mean they are ideal for the task at hand. Especially QNX and Android are among the more expensive ones I have deployed in my projects. Even windows, although rarely, and only as a user front end. Handled by someone else. I do not exclude windows from consideration per se, but the infection rate and the update regime, plus the bulk licensing regimes are pretty much showstoppers; all of them. -- mrr
