No, if that were the case you wouldn't have to jump through hoops to
implement it.  Your linker would just set the value "correctly".

If you want to tilt at windmills no one is going to stop you.  But you're
fooling no one other than yourself by arguing what you're trying to do is
"standard" or "correct".
