Lots of programmers took advantage of all kinds of dicey constructs in the early days of C, but most of those who did so knew they were skating on thin ice. In those days it was just more common to operate outside the bounds of how the language was defined. > If the authors of C89 wanted to overturn 25 years of precedent, their > failure to state such intention cannot plausibly be regarded as an > oversight. Again, there was no precedent. You are seeing phantoms. You really should learn to deal with the fact that your perceptions of reality are in many cases in conflict with others' perceptions of reality, as has been evidenced many times in responses to your postings in the newsgroup here. (My apologies if this ends up being posted twice. I got a strange error message from my newsreader.)
