Wouldn't At least on older models it's a simple pressure switch activated by a tiny plastic plunger that sticks up near the hinge. Usually fails the other way, though, and won't close. The easiest solution is change the power settings to do nothing when the lid closes. Before I just dyked it out I'd slip a guitar pick under the edge of that little plunger and see if I could stretch the spring back up... The spring and plunger will be part of the *case*;only the microswitch will be on the board. You could just pull it out of the little hole and see if that fixes things. On a really old (circa 2000) laptop, it's not even on board. The switch will be on the case part itself and a wire with a connector runs to the board. That's even easier.
