The RTX2000 is VLIW in the sense that the instructions have many fields that control the hardware directly. So there are many combinations that may or may not be useful. The documentation lists them all and it is up to you to choose which ones you wish to use. >>> Are FPGA's required to be clocked? What it "can" represent is not what is typically meant. If the operations of a unit can be run at speeds much faster than the clock, why no just use a faster clock and get better control over them in a single clock cycle? In the really "old" days, they used to use multiple phased clocks. This was because they used pass transistors to make up FFs and only one could be switched on at a time to preclude the logic shooting through to the next stage. There are all sorts of things that could be done. But often they are more complicated and make things harder to design. No small part of conventional technology has to do with how easy it is to use. But then there can be multiple, sequential operations in one clock cycle. They just don't register the intermediate steps. Like read a register, invert the data, add it to another register, shift the result and save it away. Rick
