Also, there are multipliers of volatility if these markets are
allowed to interact too closely. As seen very clearly in 1929 and
2008. Without these multipliers the busts become much more managable.

No, it wasn't the actual cause, but it allowed the multipliers
to worsen the result a great deal.

Norway had banking crisis in 1934, 1947 and in 1991-93. The first one
was of biblical proportions fed by both internal monetary policies,
multipliers between securites and banking branches, and fed by our
interactions with the US and the UK. Denmark had one too. The 1947
one was an aftereffect of the WW2 occupation, and solved by credit
rationing. The 1991-93 one was caused by housing bubbles very similar
in cause to the 2008 US one, but without the multipliers. The state
insurance organisation took over the banks by issuing liquidity as
share capital diluting the original owners between 1:5 (DnB) and
1:200 (Fokus). The ran a triage of the assets and funds, and sorted
the banks into good, bad and ugly. The good banks were refloated and
in regular business within a month, and gave 3x returns on the
rescue equity wihin a decade. The bad ones were nursed back to
health in about 5 years, and gave a modest profit on the resque
capital within a decade. The ugly ones were operated by the state
rescue fund for a decade, slowly being dismantled; and resquing around
70% of the rescue capital. In sum it was a reasonable profit for the
state, but it tied up capital for a decade.
The original owners were in practice wiped out, and the rescue fund
in effect ran the banks for a decade and a half. Some are still
owned by them.
This is exactly what the US should have done in 2007-8. The rescue
funds terms could have been set by the FED and the President as an
administrative order, and the FEDs could have run this operation
without involving congress or much court work at all. This is
already in the FDIC legislation, which dates from the international
banking reforms of 1936.

People will buy too much property when interest rates are low, and
will bid up shares then too; beyond the sensible P/E levels of
12-14.
This will then lead to liquidity implosions when interest rates rise.
We have seen around 20 such cycles so far in the industrial revolution,
the first one was the tulip crash in Amsterdam in the early 1700s.
There were also clearly identifiable boom-bust cycles throughout
the Roman empire, but there were some bits of basic economics they
never grasped.
This is the nature of people. If we want to have basically free markets,
we must live with this. But we can cut some of the nasty multipliers
out of this, and one of the most effective is the isolation of the
banking and investment sectors. An other is the use of the reserves
banks have to keep to dampen business cycles.
