Well, what can I say?  There have been improvements in 5 years.

A few months ago, I had to replace the motherboard in that system of mine 
built in 2007 now with a 3.0GHz Athlon64 X2, and Fedora 12 64-bit.  Still 
with 4GB RAM though.  There were readily noticeable improvements in 
performance even though the other components remained the same.  I just 
swapped them out.  Didn't even change the OS.  Just plugged in the hard 
drive, and the damn thing booted right up without a hitch.  Surprised the 
hell out of me.  Thought, at the very least, I'd have to do some 
troubleshooting.  Or <dread> a complete reinstall.  Sometimes, I get 
lucky.
