I am kind of lost in thread, so I don't think I have things 100%
correct. But the USR5686E shouldn't have any problems working with
either Windows or Linux. I used to use this modem a lot years ago and I
knew a lot about it. I always thought it was one of the best one out
there by any manufacture.
That other one you mentioned I don't know about. And if you are trying
to that other one working under Linux and can't. I would check to make
sure that modem isn't one of those WinModems. And my knowledge about
WinModems is ancient. But back then Linux will not work with a WinModem.
As they need to use the CPU for its own purposes (to save costs) and
require a special driver which was only available under Windows systems
AFAIK.
