Not using Suse or Gnome or x86, but no, never seen that.
I suggest that something is overloading your system, possible CPU or
memory.  Are you running any kind of performance monitor?

Maybe, when you see the slow response you should bring up "top" and take
a look to see if anything is using a lot of CPU or memory.
