Social policies had little to nothing to do with the Greek meltdown or 
the severe problems experienced by most of Southern Europe.  Their 
issues were caused by years and decades of bad fiscal and taxation 
policies, compounded by a political system that was a particularly 
pernicious form of democracy known as "clientelism".
