That name, BTW, was not an invention if mine. I googled it.

German is comparatively easy: it has rigid rules, a far smaller
vocabulary than English, and the practice of creating new words by
sticking together the appropriate smaller words follows rules, too (and
is usually easily deducible.

Thus, it is relatively easy to disentangle the
"Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz", or
the law regulating the ministerial competence for supervising the
correct labelling of beef.

Similarly, it is quite easy to decypher
"Verkehrsinfrastrukturfinanzierungsgesellschaftsgesetz" as
the law regulating the state body financing traffic infrastructure.

And yes, all these are pronounced the way they are written, so take
that, Poland!

I suspect you will find that actions need to follow words.

:-)

Anyway, for domestic bliss and harmony a husband only needs to know five
words: "yes, dear" and "I am sorry".

If you wish to elaborate, feel free to add "you are right, of course".

:-)

Not sure about the French (we always suspect that they are rather short
on a sense of humour, as demonstrated by their adoration of Jerry
Lewis), but from our side it was always less a case of proper enmity and
more a matter of tweaking the nose of a favourite cousin.

Sorry, but I haven't.
I do try to avoid Pat Buchanan and all his works and deeds and words.

I have read extensively on WWII, though.

Read it before you watch the movies.
