I was brought up in what was then called the Church of England - it was later called the Anglican Church of Canada - and marriage with first cousins was considered as unthinkable as marrying a sibling, with marriage with more distant cousins being undesirable at the least. And it didn't matter in the least that such marriages were not forbidden in the Table of Kindred and Affinity in the prayer book.
