Well even though you haven't really asked me I'll make a few comments.

After Apple and Android snatched the phone market away from MS a number 
of years ago, MS didn't really do much in response to attempt to switch 
that back a bit.

And then they let time become their enemy.  Nothing was really going on 
with MS with tablets and phones until late in the party.  Just look at 
the Surface line for some indications.  Surface was late to the party and 
took a drubbing in the press and market with the early SurfaceRT and a 
somewhat less drubbing with the early SPs.  MS kept hammering at it and 
now have a pretty good lineup with that line.

The biggest thing that made that happen was that there was already a ton 
software for a computer.  Unfortunately for MS, there really wasn't for 
the Windows Phone and that has continued right up to now.  Lack of 
software for the WP has been the problem all along and so far, there's 
not much indication that will change though there are some that think 
with the upcoming WP10 and the 'universal' app idea that things will get 
better.  We'll get to see that unfold going forward.

IF MS is serious about the phone business, and from all indications they 
are, then they should be able to increase the size of their niche in the 
market.  Frankly if they could solve the app issue there's lots to like 
about the WPs.

But it is a pretty big nut to crack.  iOS has a firm grip on the premium 
end of the phone/tablet market and Android has just as firm a grip on the 
medium to low end of the market.  Couple that with the fact that the 
sales people push Android and iOS much harder than WP.
