I do admit to a bit of trolling. But at least I do it mostly from pan
running on linux. That can't be said of some of the linux loonies.

I don't know that it is inferior, most of my comments that talk about the
failure of linux on the desktop have little to do with the overall
operation of linux and more on the much daunted 'freedom' of choices
which make it a non-marketable OS.

And those points stick out like a sore thumb. If linux on the desktop is
ready to be marketed you'd think that family and friends of these linux
advocates would be using it too. But more often than not, as you point
out, they are running mostly Windows with some few running OSX.

Lack of consistency is anathema to marketing and sales. Canonical made a
run at getting a marketable distro out there but hasn't really cracked
that nut yet and it doesn't appear that they will.

But there are some rumors being reported here and there that Microsoft is
going to get involved with Canonical to some level, possibly just some
funding. If that is true, it will be interesting to see what the
'advocates' have to say about that.
