In my opinion the best way to explain the event are such 'starwars-like' 
weapons. They are commonly called 'scalar-wave-lasers' or similar.

Anyhow, the starship 'Enterprise' would be proud to have one of those.

This development is highly secret, hence we don't know, how and if they 
work or if they exist at all.

In my eyes this explanation is far better than -say - nukes or other 
explosives.

Other proponents of such ideas are John Hutchison or Tom Bearden.

(Both of them are a little strange people, but that does not render 
their ideas wrong.)
