Again, I think he was saying "Mac Linux" tongue-in-cheek. I'm not
suggesting he actually thinks Mac OS X is Linux. Rather, I think he is
suggesting that a large swath of the Mac OS X Unix environment is very
similar to many Linux distributions. This is actually the case. While
some things are indeed different, very many things are similar enough
that for many purposes, one can use Mac OS X for the same things for
which one might use Linux.  I don't see anyone here stating that Mac OS
X is exactly the same as Linux.

If that's not how you interpreted his statement, so be it.
